Grandma was one of the first songs Empress wrote, when we were still navigating who and what Empress was and wanted to be. Grandma was a pivotal song in our journey and creation of our sound as it is now. It is a fun, silly and somewhat cryptic song about the unavoidable odd dynamics between close family members, particularly Grandma’s. It was written with love after one significantly awkward family Christmas, and pokes fun at all the quirky characters within families we love. It is a fun, triadic-harmony driven song with lots of groove and quirk.
